Hygiene

Cleanliness to prevent disease.

Hygiene is a set of procedures to reduce the spread of pathogens through cleanliness

A high genie (hygiene) was employed at the hospital to ensure every ward was perfectly clean.

Examples of hygiene practice

1.  Effective personal hygiene practice includes regularly washing/bathing the body and brushing your teeth to keep bacteria and viruses at bay.

2.  Hospitals have standardised cleaning practices to minimise the risk of infections such as MRSA and C. diff (clostridium difficile).

3.  Strict hygiene measures when preparing food are vital to avoid food poisoning – restaurants are regularly inspected and awarded ratings.

The UK food standards agency have given all food outlets strict rules to food preparing to avoid poisoning and spread of pathogens. All restaurants and outlets are rated for their hygiene efforts

A rating like this, from the UK Food Standards Agency, shows that a food outlet is meeting hygiene standards.

1.  Efficient systems of waste disposal and sewage systems are also important aspects of modern hygiene practices.
