Blast furnace

Why is it called a blast furnace? It’s called a blast furnace because lots of hot air is blasted into the furnace.

Blast furnaces are very hot chambers where hot air is blasted through it

A hair dryer dries the lady’s hair quickly (blasts hot air).

The blast furnace

Coke, carbon and iron ore (haematite) are dropped into the top of the furnace. High temperature causes a reaction, the resultant molten iron sinks to the bottom while the molten slag floats on the top.

Coke limestone and ores are dropped in it is then blasted by the hot air, which separates the impurities followed by the remenance of the coke and limestone to form slag and the metal is separate
