Oak Tree
Distinctive features
1. Oak tree leaves have five or six rounded lobes.
2. The seeds are called acorns, which are shiny fruit held together in textured cups.

To remember the distinctive and main features of an oak tree, use the following mnemonic:
When you hear the word oak tree this should remind you of the hundreds of pubs in the UK called The Royal Oak. These pubs are called The Royal Oak because Charles II hid in an oak tree to evade parliamentary forces.

Go back, in your minds eye, and see Charles II hiding in the oak tree from a Parliamentarian (called Roundheads). If you look closely at this scene you will see the Roundhead has five ear lobes (oak leaves have five to six lobes). While he remains undetected Charles II has decided to eat a corn on the cob (acorns are the oaks seeds).

Note: It's interesting that an acorn is held together in a textured cup. The cup is textured similar to a corn on the cob.

Main Features of an Oak Tree.
1. Oak leaves are very distinctive with five to six pairs of unequal lobes. The leaves are smooth on the edges and look like they have been neatly cut out with scissors.

2. Acorns are the oak trees seeds. This nut is egg-shaped and sits in a cup-like structure and covers up to one third to half of the acorn.

3. The oak tree.
