Hinge Joint – A joint that acts like a hinge i.e. the joint only allows movement in one direction

The hinge joint acts exactly like a hinge on a door.

The hinge joint can only allow movement in one plane. 

The hinge joint can be found in the elbow and knee joints, they allow movement in only one direction. The elbow and knee joints are the two most obvious hinge joints in the body and can be easily compared to a door hinge. 

The hinge joint can be found in the finger joints of the hand and allows movement in one plane towards the palm.
