When transposing a note downwards, this chart can make it simpler if you're unsure of which note you should land on. At the top of the chart, -1, -2, -3 etc refers to the number of semitones that the note is moving down by. For example, if your root note is F and you know you must transpose down 3 semitones, use the chart to count across three squares from F and you'll see the note you land on is D. For squares that have two notes within them, that is simply because these notes are a half step down (or up) between notes, so can be considered flat or sharp versions the notes above or below.
