(Pronounced kuh-vuh-nuhnt)

Jews believe that the covenant is an agreement that God made with Abraham.

The agreement was that God would give protection and land to Abraham and his descendants, but they had to follow the path of God.

God then told Abraham that his and future generations must perform the ritual of circumcision (brit milah) as a symbol of the covenant.

The covenant may be interpreted in different ways by different people, based on their particular type of Judaism, beliefs, practices, and cultures.

The covenant is the basis of the idea of the Jews being God's chosen people.

The Book of the Covenant is the name given to a text that is found in the Torah, outlining the agreement between god and Abraham.
