The reaction between zinc and hydrochloric acid

The salt produced when zinc reacts with hydrochloric acid is zinc chloride.

Zinc + Hydrochloric acid Zinc chloride + Hydrogen
Zn + 2HCl ZnCl2 + H2

Unlike aluminium and magnesium zinc doesn’t produce an oxide layer, meaning the reaction is very quick

Although not as intense, the reaction between zinc and hydrochloric acid is quicker than the reaction between aluminium and hydrochloric acid, as there is no oxide layer to remove from the surface of the metal.
