Exothermic and endothermic reactions
During endothermic reactions, heat is taken in from the surroundings. E.g. thermal decomposition. On the other hand, exothermic reactions produce heat. E.g. burning fuels and burning candles.

Entering = Endothermic = taking in heat
Exiting = Exothermic = giving out heat
