Attrition – wear down

Attrition means wearing down, or the gradual reduction of strength.
To remember the definition of the word attrition, use the following mnemonic:
A trip soon (attrition) wore the kids down as they got to the top of the mountain.
Examples of attrition in a sentence
It was a war of attrition – whoever weakened first would be the loser.
The hills were lowered through attrition due to glaciers and weathering, until the surfaces had a gently undulating appearance.
He decided he would win through attrition – he would gradually wear down his opponents.
