Chattels – Personal belongings (except real estate)

To remember the definition of the word chattels, use the following mnemonic:
Trying to chat was a battle (chattels) because the bailiff was reading out a long list of personal belongings that were being taken from the house.

She treated her husband as little more than a chattel.
My chattels are very important to me.
To finance this expedition we will have to sell our chattels.
