Enzyme – a substance produced by a living organism to accelerate a biochemical reaction
(Pronounced en-zyme)
To remember the definition of the word enzyme, use the following mnemonic:
God ends time (enzyme) on this reaction. God says I've seen enough. I can see that enzymes can accelerate a biochemical reaction. A product can be produced (a child). The enzyme is not changed in the reaction and can catalyse further chemical reactions.
Note: Imagine that an enzyme is a man.

Some genetic conditions prevent the body producing certain enzymes.
Lactase is the enzyme that breaks down lactose.
Her science homework for the week was to memorise a list of enzymes and their purposes in the human body.
