Hiatus – A break or interruption in a sentence or activity; a gap where something is missing
(Pronounced hai-ay-tuhs)
To remember the definition of the word hiatus, use the following mnemonic:
They said hi and then ate with us (hiatus) to take a break. The only way to get to us was to go through a gap in the wall.

He took a hiatus from dancing in 1995.
The grassy hiatus between the road and the lake.
The band took a five year hiatus.
