Theology – The study of God and religious belief

(Pronounced thee-ology ("th" as in "think"))

"Ology" turns up many times in the English language and it means "the science or study of".

The only part you have to learn now is that the prefix "the" means, in this context, "God", which can be learnt using the following mnemonic:

The one, the only, I present to you God.

Examples of theology in a sentence

After receiving his degree in theology, James decided he didn't want to be a pastor after all.

Missionaries would have to teach theology to the local people.

Since the boy had never been to church, he had little understanding of theology.
