Quorum – The minimum number of people needed to carry through a vote in a meeting
(Pronounced kwaw-ruhm)
To remember the definition of the word quorum, use the following mnemonic:
A quarter of the forum (quorum) turned up but it was enough to carry through a vote.
Examples of Quorum in a sentence
Too many absences due to summer vacations caused the meeting to cancel since a quorum was not formed.
Seventeen students were needed for a quorum in order to discuss the topics during the Student Council meeting.
According to University rules, two-thirds of each department constitutes a quorum to do business.
