Lady Macbeth Sleepwalks (Act 5, Scene 1)

Lady Macbeth sleepwalks, haunted by the guilt of the murders. A doctor and gentlewoman observe her, noting her frantic hand-washing motions and troubled speech. She speaks of blood on her hands and references the murders of Duncan, Banquo, and Lady Macduff (Thane of Fife’s wife). The doctor recognises her disturbed mental state as beyond his ability to treat, declaring her mind ‘infected’.
