How to recognise Kansas on a map

(Pronounced kan-zuhs )

Kansas's outline looks like a Coke can on top of a cart (when used along with Oklahoma – see note below).

To remember the appearance and location of the US state Kansas on a map, use the following mnemonic:

He always kept a can (Kansas) of something on his oak cart.

He always kept a can (Kansas) of something in his oak cart.

NOTE:

Two U.S. states, Kansas and Oklahoma, together look like a Coke can on top of a cart:

Two U.S states, Kansas and Oklahoma, together look like a Coke can on top of a cart.

This is very useful for remembering the shapes, and for being able to recognise them instantly on a map. "Can" gives us Kansas, and by imagining the cart is made of oak, we get Oklahoma.
