How to recognise Kansas on a map
(Pronounced kan-zuhs )
Kansas's outline looks like a Coke can on top of a cart (when used along with Oklahoma – see note below).
To remember the appearance and location of the US state Kansas on a map, use the following mnemonic:
He always kept a can (Kansas) of something on his oak cart.
NOTE:
Two U.S. states, Kansas and Oklahoma, together look like a Coke can on top of a cart:
This is very useful for remembering the shapes, and for being able to recognise them instantly on a map. "Can" gives us Kansas, and by imagining the cart is made of oak, we get Oklahoma.
