Mammoth Memory

How to recognise Oklahoma on a map

(Pronounced oh-kluh-hoh-muh)

Oklahoma's outline looks like an oak cart.

To remember the appearance and location of the US state Oklahoma on a map, use the following mnemonic:

His oak cart had his whole home in it (Oklahoma).

His oak cart had his whole home in it (Oklahoma).

NOTE:

Two U.S. states, Kansas and Oklahoma, together look like a Coke can on top of a cart:

Two U.S states, Kansas and Oklahoma, together look like a Coke can on top of a cart.

This is very useful for remembering the shapes, and for being able to recognise them instantly on a map. "Can" gives us Kansas, and by imagining the cart is made of oak, we get Oklahoma.
