Question Words Introduction

Before we show you these "question words" you need to learn about the upside down question mark.

Before we show you these "question words" you need to learn about the upside down question mark.

For any question or interrogative clauses an upside down question mark (¿) is placed at the beginning and a normal question mark at the end. This is simply correct and proper Spanish punctuation. For example:

Karren, ¿adónde vas? (Karren, where are you going?)

¿Cómo estás? (How are you?)

The reason for the upside down "question mark" is so that you can distinguish between a question or a statement in Spanish:

Eres inglés = You are English

¿Eres inglés? = Are you English?
