Last (adjective) – dernier (m) derniére (f) 

(Pronounced der-nee-ay (m) der-nee-air (f))

He finished last in the race due to the hernia (dernier) he had.

NOTE:

The subject to which "last" relates determines whether the masculine or feminine form of the word is used in French.

For example, if you were to say:

"She finished last in the race," you would use derniére (feminine).

But if you were to say:

"Last time he visited," it would be dernier (masculine).
