Little – petit (adjective) peu (adverb)

The little girl had a pet eel (petit). Its tank fitted perfectly (peu) under her bed.

NOTE:

The word petit is the translation for little in French when used as an adjective for size. For example:

"She has a little cat" would be:

"Elle a un petit chat."

The French translation for little, when used as an adverb for quantity, is peu. For example:

"We've got very little time" would be:

"Nous avons trés peu de temps."
