goodbye – zai jee-en
Written as zài jiàn or zai jian
To remember that goodbye is pronounced zai jee-en (zai jian) in Mandarin Chinese, use the following mnemonic:
Did you know that you can say goodbye to a genie by rubbing the side of the lamp? The genie will shrink back down the end (zai-jee-en) of the spout.
