convert the suit into a number
When you look at a pack of cards, you need to convert each suit to a number. If you count the points on each suit (mostly at the top) then this becomes easier.
SPADES
SPADES equals ONE because there is only one point at the top. A digging spade hits the ground at one point.
HEARTS
HEARTS equals TWO because there are two points at the top. There are usually two hearts involved in love.
CLUBS
CLUBS equals THREE because there are three points at the top. They look like a three-leaf clover.
DIAMONDS
DIAMONDS equals FOUR because there are four points around a diamond.
SUMMARY
SPADES = ONE
HEARTS = TWO
CLUBS = THREE
DIAMONDS = FOUR
