How to remember each lever class 

To remember each lever class, use the following mnemonic:

There are 3 classes of levers, 1, 2 and 3.

Associate each lever, 1, 2 and 3 with a rhyme.

Associate each lever 1, 2 and 3 with a rhyme.

Each lever is also associated with a key object as follows:

Now use each lever rhyme with each lever key object and you will easily remember the 3 classes of lever.

Lever 1

Associate Bun (lever 1) with seesaw.

Imagine a seesaw with two buns at each end using the seesaw.

Imagine a seesaw with two buns at each end using the seesaw.

If you hear lever 1 you can now think one is buns and see them on a seesaw, hence lever 1 is seesaw. Alternatively if you see a seesaw type diagram in an exam you can think of buns at each end and think bun is one, hence seesaw is lever 1.

 

Lever 2

Associate shoe (lever 2) with wheelbarrow.

Imagine seeing a wheelbarrow stuffed with shoes.

Imagine seeing a wheelbarrow stuffed with shoes.

If you hear lever 2 you can now think two is shoes and see a wheelbarrow full of shoes, hence lever 2 is wheelbarrow. Alternatively if you see a wheelbarrow type diagram in an exam you can think shoe and think shoe two, hence wheelbarrow is lever 2.

 

Lever 3

Associate tree (lever 3) with tweezers.

Imagine seeing a giant using tweezers to pull off every single leaf on a tree.

If you hear lever 3 you can now think three is tree and see tweezers pulling off leaves from a tree. Alternatively if you see a tweezers type diagram in an exam you can think tree and think three, hence tweezers is lever 3.
