Footfall – The number of people that enter a shop of business in a particular period of time
(Pronounced fut-fawl)
To remember what footfall means use the following mnemonic:
Footfall is self-explanatory if you split the word up. Remember, when a potential customer's foot falls (footfall) inside a shop, that counts toward the total number of people entering the business in a particular time.
Footfall can also be known as foot traffic and is an important metric that relates to the amount of revenue a physical store generates. If a store is located in an area where there are fewer people walking by, there is a high chance that the store’s footfall will be low and fewer sales will be made. Footfall is the exact reason why mainstream stores are usually located on high streets and in shopping centres, as this is where most of the foot traffic is located.
