Solute – Compound/solid that breaks down into a liquid
(Pronounced so-lyoot)
To remember what solute means, remember the following mnemonic:
Solute think solid that breaks down
The car has so much looted (solute) from it. It started as a solid car but it's been broken down because it's in a rough area.
Note: the substance that dissolves (breaks down and becomes incorporated into a liquid so as to form a solution) is called a solute.
