Diatomic molecules

Molecules that consist of two atoms are called diatomic molecules.

Hydrogen (H2), oxygen (O2) and chlorine (Cl2) are all elements that exist as diatomic molecules.

A molecule with 2 hydrogen atoms is a diatomic molecule

A molecule with 2 oxygen atoms is a diatomic molecule

A molecule with 2 chlorine atoms is a diatomic molecule

These atoms are joined together by covalent bonds. Because they have not given or lost electrons but shared them, they have no charge.
