Molecules

A molecule is a substance made up of atoms chemically bonded together. The atoms can be the same or different elements.

A compound is a substance made up of atoms chemically bonded together. The atoms have to be different elements.

CL2 (chlorine) contains a single element and this can be called a molecule, CL2 can not be called a compound because the atoms are the same.

Examples of molecules include 02, H20 and CO2

The atoms that make up a molecule can be of the same or different elements.

Molecule Gangsters Moll 2nd go.jpg

To remember what a molecule is, picture a moll (a gangster’s wife or girlfriend) who looks cool (molecule), being guarded by henchmen dressed as atom bombs (atoms). Some are the same as each other, some are different.
