Tacit – Understood or implied without being stated
(Pronounced tas-it)
To remember the definition of the word tacit, use the following mnemonic:
That hat with the tassels on it (tacit) meant that she had graduated. It didn't need to be stated it was just understood.
Examples of tacit in a sentence
We had tacit consent from the police for the party in the field but that didn't stand up in court.
I nodded in tacit understanding as the teacher went through the theory of evolution.
They had not signed a treaty but there was a tacit understanding between the countries that they would get along.
