Spelling words with double letters rule
To remember when to double letters when adding an ending to a word use the following mnemonic:
Example 1
Add an ending to run, use mnemonic:
So run becomes running.
Example 2
Add an ending to camp, use mnemonic:
So camp becomes camping.
Note
This works for words with one syllable, and ends in a consonant. Here are some more examples:

Add an ending to talk, the mnemonic:
So talk becomes talking.
Example 4
Add an ending to scream, use mnemonic:
So scream becomes screaming.
