Mammoth Memory

Omnipotent – All powerful

(Pronounced om-nip-uh-tuhnt)

Note: Theists believe God is omnipotent.

To remember the meaning of the term Omnipotent, use the following mnemonic:

"Om" she chanted as she assumed the knee position. It was a potent (omnipotent) charm because all the power came on in the house which was a miracle as the power had been off for years!

"Om" she chanted as she assumed the knee position. It was a potent (omnipotent) charm because all the power came on in the house which was a miracle as the power had been off for years!

"Omni" means "all" and "potent" means powerful. Put the two together and you get "omnipotent", which mean "all-powerful".

Religions that teach monotheism (the belief that there is only one God), such as Christianity, Judaism and Islamism, have tried to build up a picture of what God is like.

This has led them to the conclusion that God is omnipotent, or all-powerful. They claim that God is not subject any physical limitations.

Their belief is that God has power over wind, water and gravity – in fact, all of physics – and that God's power is infinite, or limitless.

And if that's not sufficient to show the perceived power of God, monotheists also believe that God is omnipresent (exists everywhere) and omniscient (knows everything there is to know about the past, present, and future.)
