blind spot (eye) – the gap in your vision caused by a small area on the retina

(Pronounced blind spot)

To remember the meaning of blind spot (eye), use the following mnemonic:

Wearing a blindfold I couldn't spot (blind spot) the gap in the pavement because I had no vision (gap in vision).

Wearing a blindfold I couldn't spot (blind spot) the gap in the pavement because I had no vision (gap in vision).

The blind spot is a small area in the visual field where no image can be detected, caused by the absence of photoreceptor cells (rods and cones) at the point where the optic nerve connects to the retina. Normally, we don't notice this blind spot because our brain fills in missing information using visual data from surrounding areas and from the other eye, and also because our eyes are constantly moving, which prevents images from staying fixed on the blind spot.

The blind spot is located slightly to the side of our central vision in each eye.

The eye has a blind spot where the optic nerve enters the eye, all light project on the optic nerve will not be processed by rod and cones meaning most animals can be blind on one specific view
