Geotropism
Also known as gravitropism, this is movement or growth in response to gravity.
The flash photography startled the tropical plant, causing her to drop the award. Gravity (geotropism or gravitropism) pulled the award towards the ground (gravity) causing it to break as it landed.
NOTE:
GEO = “The Earth”
As in Geography = the study of the earth.
Gravitropism or geotropism both mean towards the earth or away from the earth.
Example
Geotropism (or gravitropism) – movement or growth in response to gravity, for example the roots of a plant grow down because of geotropism.
