Dog – el perro
(Pronounced pear-roh)
To remember that dog is pronounced pear-roh (perro) in Spanish, use the following mnemonic:
The little dog tried to hide in the pear row.
Perro is masculine, so it’s el perro. Imagine a dog that takes an elephant with it everywhere it goes:
NOTE: There’s a feminine version of this word, too – perra. So if you know that it is going to refer to a female dog, or something else that’s female (could be someone who you think looks like a dog!), it becomes la perra.
