People – la gente
(Pronounced hen-tay)
To remember that people is pronounced hen-tay (gente) in Spanish, use the following mnemonic:
The people were surprised to see a hen take (gente) part in a marathon.
Gente is feminine, so it's la gente. Imagine that the only people on the planet up to now were ladies – so they were rather excited when they found a man on the beach!
