Mammoth Memory

Biomechanics – The area of science concerned with the movement of humans (or organisms)

(Pronounced buy-oh-muh-kan-iks)

We know that bio means life, but to remember that mechanics means movement, remember the following mnemonic:

The mechanics were the only ones who could get all the joints moving

The mechanics were the only ones who could get all the joints moving.

So bio mechanics means "life", "movement". The study of life and how it moves.

Biomechanics is used to analyse and improve techniques and performance in order to reduce the risk of injury and improve athletic ability. Some examples of how biomechanics is used in sports include analysing the mechanics of a golf swing to improve accuracy, studying the forces involved in kicking a football to increase power and examining body movements during a sprint to improve speed and efficiency.
