North – el norte
(Pronounced nohr-teh)
To remember that north is pronounced nohr-teh (norte) in Spanish, use the following mnemonic:
To get to our home in the North we normally take (note) the scenic route.
When used as a noun (e.g., el norte de Europa (the north of Europe)) norte is masculine, so it's el norte. Imagine an elephant shivering in the North Pole.
