oil – el aceite

(Pronounced ah-say-tay)

To remember that oil is pronounced ah-say-tay (aceite) in Latin American Spanish, use the following mnemonic:

The oil made the athlete slip. I say take (aceite) more care and go around it. 

Aceite is masculine, so it's el aceite. Imagine an elephant slipping on oil while trying to hold on to everything around him.
