Embolism – Blockage of a blood vessel
(Pronounced em-buh-lih-zm)
The blood clot embedded itself, but the professionalism (embolism) of the doctor resulted in the removal of the blockage in the blood vessel.
An embolism in the lungs (known as a pulmonary embolism) can be life threatening. Embolisms can be caused when training at high altitudes or by prolonged immobility, such as sitting on a long flight or car journey. Other causes include trauma or surgery. To prevent this, it is essential to keep blood flowing through stretches and exercising, and avoiding staying stationary for too long.
