Sub-Maximal (training) – a type of training where the individual does not exert maximal effort during exercise
(Pronounced sub-max-uh-muhl)
The sub was at maximum speed, but this animal (sub-maximal) kept up without exerting maximal effort.
Sub-maximal effort training typically involves using 65-85% of maximum performance. This type of training can be used to improve endurance and overall fitness, as it allows for longer workout sessions. It can also be used as a form of active recovery, allowing someone to get some exercise while still allowing their body to recover from previous workouts in which maximal effort was used.
