Territory – Defended area
Area defended/protected by an individual or group of animals.
The terrier (territory) defended the penalty area.
Animals can defend a territory in many ways, such as scent marking, spraying, scratching, displaying and fighting.
Animals such as tigers and bears may rub scent glands, spray or scratch trees to identify the boundary of their territory to others.
Stags fight one another in the rutting season to acquire the most valuable territory containing the best food and most females.
