retailer – A business or person that sells goods to the public in relatively small quantities per purchase/ visit

Note: A retailer sells goods to be consumed/used by the person (a consumer) who buys them and not resold again. This compares to a wholesaler who sells to a retailer to be resold.

Retailers sell goods directly to consumers in small quantities. Retailing usually occurs in retail stores but also occurs through vending machines, home sales or e-commerce channels.

Examples of retailers include Walmart, Waterstones, Poundland and Marks & Spencer’s. There are also online retailers such as Amazon and ASOS. Retailing also includes convenience stores and boutiques.
