The reaction between aluminium and oxygen
Aluminium can form several oxides, but the one produced when it reacts with oxygen as it is burnt is aluminium (III) oxide.
Aluminium | + | Oxygen | → | Aluminium (III) oxide |
4Al | + | 3O2 | → | 2Al2O3 |
Aluminium burns with a bright white flame though less bright than magnesium. The aluminium oxide produced is a whitish colour and insoluble in water.
