Texture – Refers to the surface quality in a work of art

To remember what texture is, recall the following mnemonic:

Text your (texture) friend explaining how it may feel to have a different texture on each finger.

Text your (texture) friend asking her to name her five favourite surface qualities, and this is what she might reply.

You need to decide on the texture of your artwork when you are an artist. Your choice affects both two-dimensional painting and drawings and three-dimensional sculptures. It may be physical texture, with raised painted surfaces or a choice of materials. The surface could also show a perceived texture, for instance, it could show something as rough that, when touched, is actually smooth.

To start to think about textures and the endless variety, we have put forward a few more fun possible replies from your friend's text.
