Standard Form Mnemonic
Here below is an alternative way to remember standard form:
To change a number to standard form you either have to make it larger or smaller.
Which ever way, remember this mnemonic phrase:
Example 1
Change `11.1xx10^8` to standard form.
So the number starts `1.11`
Remember the mnemonic above.
GET SMALLER, GET BIGGER.
So the number has got smaller so the index gets bigger:
`11.1xx10^8` becomes `1.11xx10^9`
Example 2
Change `0.6xx10^-4` to standard form.
So the number starts `6.0`.
Remember the mnemonic above.
GET BIGGER, GET SMALLER.
So the number has got bigger so the index gets smaller.
`0.6xx10^-4` becomes `6.0xx10^-5`.
