Gross and Fine Continuum
We know:
Gross - involve large muscle movements and are not very precise.
Fine - involve small muscle movements and high levels of coordination.
Continuum - is a scale line between two extreme points.
So to put these together, we have a continuum between gross and fine skills. This is how skills are judged based on the amount of muscle movement and skill required to perform them.
Example 1
Placing weight lifting, javelin throwing, netball passes, golf shots and snooker/pool shots in a gross and fine continuum would be as follows:
Example 2
Bowling a cricket ball requires different amounts of gross and fine skills on a continuum. The skills are judged based on the amount of muscle movement and skill required to perform them.
For example, see here how the actions of a cricket bowler are placed along the gross and fine continuum.
