How to recognise and use tenses
The tense of a piece of writing tells you whether something happened in the past, is happening now, or may happen in the future. Tenses are tied up with time.
TENSE = TIME
To remember this:
The tension (tense) in the spring was too great and the clock broke down (time).
There are three main tenses (or times):
PAST PRESENT FUTURE
