Aerobic – with oxygen
(Pronounced air-oh-bik)
Aerobic means "with oxygen". Aerobic respiration uses oxygen and takes place constantly in plants and animals. It is the most efficient way of releasing energy from glucose.
Glucose + oxygen → carbon dioxide + water + energy
(Note: Respiration is the production of energy)
To help remember what aerobic means, use the following mnemonic:
Imagine an heir to the throne wearing robes being taken quickly (aerobic) through his fields on an ox (with oxygen).
