The reaction between sodium and hydrochloric acid
When sodium reacts with hydrochloric acid, the salt produced is sodium chloride.
Sodium | + | Hydrochloric acid | → | Sodium chloride | + | Hydrogen |
2Na | + | 2HCl | → | 2NaCl | + | H2 |
The reaction between sodium and hydrochloric acid is also violent and over quickly though less so than the reaction between potassium and hydrochloric acid. The sodium ignites, producing a bright flame.
