The reaction between zinc and hydrochloric acid
The salt produced when zinc reacts with hydrochloric acid is zinc chloride.
Zinc | + | Hydrochloric acid | → | Zinc chloride | + | Hydrogen |
Zn | + | 2HCl | → | ZnCl2 | + | H2 |
Although not as intense, the reaction between zinc and hydrochloric acid is quicker than the reaction between aluminium and hydrochloric acid, as there is no oxide layer to remove from the surface of the metal.
