Change of stress

Note how words can change depending on which syllable is stressed.

Example 1

Desert (run away from armed forces, leave, abandon)

 

Desert (dry, sandy region)

 

 

 

Example 2

Rebel (as in a rebel soldier who fights against an established government)

 

Rebel (as in to rebel against authority, e.g. teenagers rebel against their parents)
